The Testing Center at Charlotte Technical Center offers a wide variety of important tests and valuable professional industry certifications. Passing key tests and acquiring industry certification can be your ticket to a better life.

Professional certification is found in almost every industry today for many reasons. It helps advance the profession. It helps employers evaluate potential new hires, analyze job performance, evaluate employees, select contractors, market services, and motivate employees to enhance their skills and knowledge. Autodesk
CTC is an Autodesk Authorized Test Center. Certification is available for the following Autodesk products: AutoCAD, AutoCAD Architecture, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Autodesk Inventor, and Revit Architecture. The Autodesk Certification program gives students the opportunity to validate their knowledge and skills, helping accelerate their entry into the design industry.

CLEP
CTC is a College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) Computer-Based Test (eCBT) Center. The CLEP provides the opportunity to receive college credit for what you already know by earning qualifying scores on any of the 34 CLEP examinations in Composition and Literature, Science and Mathematics, Foreign Languages, History and Social Sciences, and Business. A total of 2,900 colleges and universities in the United States will recognize your comprehensive subject knowledge acquired through independent or prior study, on-the-job training, professional development, cultural pursuits, or internships.

ETA® International Certification
Electronics Technicians Association (ETA) International is a not-for-profit, worldwide professional association founded by electronics technicians and servicing dealers since 1978. The purpose of the association is to provide recognized professional credentials as a testament to an individual’s skills and knowledge in a particular area of study.

ETA® International offers dozens of electronics certifications in categories that include Basic/Entry Level certifications, Certified Electronics Technician, Computers, Fiber Optics and Data Cabling, Residential Electronics Systems Integrator, Customer Service Specialist, Satellite, numerous Stand Alone Certifications, and FCC Licensing.

F-BAT
The Florida Basic Abilities Test (F-BAT) meets the needs of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for testing candidates for law enforcement (LEBAT), corrections (COBAT) and correctional probation (PROBAT).

GED Program
The GED Tests are designed to measure the major and lasting academic outcomes associated with a traditional four-year high school program of study. To receive the State of Florida High School Diploma, examinees must pass a rigorous seven and one-half hour battery of tests that are based on the core content areas of high school curricula in the United States.

To pass the tests, individuals must achieve scores that are comparable to those attained by the top 70 percent of a recent sample of the nation’s graduating high school seniors. Thus, passing the GED Test signifies the attainment of general academic knowledge and skills associated with high school completion.

The GED battery consists of a written essay, as well as multiple-choice tests of Language Arts: Writing, Social Studies, Science; Language Arts: Reading and Mathematics. The GED tests do not measure recall; all test items require the ability to comprehend, apply, analyze, synthesize, or evaluate written text.

Not enrolled in high school

An age waiver may be granted to sixteen and seventeen year olds in cases of extraordinary circumstances by contacting the Academy at 255-7545. Testing accommodations are available for candidates with special needs. Please contact Jeffeney DeBarr for further information at 255-7500, ext. 120. Steps to Completion

  1. Register for the T.A.B.E. Test (Test of Adult Basic Education). Pre-registration is required by calling CTC at 255-7500.
  2. Call Jeffeney DeBarr at 941-255-7500 ext. 120 to discuss your T.A.B.E. scores and design a plan to meet your goals.
  3. Prepare for the GED test by taking advantage of the individualized instruction in the Adult Learning Center with qualified, caring instructors.
    • Review and improve math skills
    • Increase reading and language skills
    • Enhance essay-writing skills
    • Review math plotting procedures
    • Practice with the Casio FX-260 scientific calculator
    • Take the official GED practice test
  4. Attend a required GED Orientation. At the GED Orientation you will:
    • Pay a testing fee of $70.00
    • Provide a photo ID and Social Security Card, if available
    • Reserve your testing date
    • Complete registration paperwork

    Note: Failure to notify the GED Office of GED Test absence may result in repayment of testing fees.

  5. Take the GED test.

Note: Steps 1 – 3 are highly recommended but not required.

Passing Standards:
410 on each section AND an overall average of 450 for a TOTAL of 2250.

ISCET
The International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians (ISCET) has helped train, prepare, and test technicians in the electronics and appliance service industry for over thirty years. The Certified Electronics Technician (CET) Program, founded in 1965, is designed to measure the degree of theoretical knowledge and technical proficiency of practicing technicians.

Certifications available include Associate Level Electronics, Multimedia Systems Technician, Electronics Systems Associate, Journeyman Level, NASTeC National Appliance Service Technician, and FCC Elements 1, 3, 5-9.

National Healthcareer Association
Individuals who pass the certification exam will be recognized as Nationally Certified Allied Healthcare professionals. With certification, you will earn credentials to use with your name, a certification ID card and a certificate.

ParaPro
The ParaPro assessment measures skills and knowledge in reading, writing, and math of prospective, as well as practicing, paraprofessionals. It also measures the ability to apply these skills and knowledge in the classroom. It was designed to satisfy the federally legislated No Child Left Behind Act.

School Bus Safety Inspection Program
CTC’s Testing Center offers the online 100-question certification and a 30-question recertification test for the Florida School Bus Safety Inspection Program.

The T.A.B.E. Test
The Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) is a timed battery of tests covering reading, math and language skills and is required by the Florida Department of Education for many GED-prep and career courses.

Testing Waiver Technical students can be waived with original documentation of an Associate in Applied Science degree or higher (AAS, ATD, AS, AA, BA, BS, etc.) from an accredited U.S. institution. If you have documented testing accomodations, please let the testing center know prior to testing.

What can I expect on the TABE test?

Your reading, math and language skills will be assessed.

Reading is primarily comprehension skills:

  • Demonstrate understanding of information presented in graphic formats (maps, signs, graphs, consumer materials).
  • Understand words in context.
  • Understand the literal meaning of a passage.
  • Identify the main idea.
  • Draw conclusions.
  • Recognize cause and effect.
  • Demonstrate critical understanding by making predictions, distinguishing between fact and opinion, transferring ideas to other situations and identifying the author’s purpose.

Math includes two sections:

Math Computation:

  • Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division of whole numbers, decimals, fractions, integers (positive and negative numbers), percents
  • Order of operations
  • Algebraic Operations involving exponents, roots; solve equations; simplify expressions

Applied Mathematics: (word problems format; calculator can be used in this section only)

  • Numbers and number operations
  • Computation in context
  • Estimation
  • Measurement
  • Geometry and spatial sense
  • Data analysis
  • Statistics and probability
  • Patterns, functions, algebra
  • Problem solving and reasoning

Language includes:

  • Appropriate use of parts of speech
  • Sentence formation
  • Paragraph development
  • Capitalization
  • Punctuation
  • Writing conventions (quotation marks, apostrophes and letter parts)

Wonderlic
The Wonderlic Basic Skills Test (WBST) is a short form measure of adult language and math skills which are generally learned in high school. The WBST is used to identify students and job applicants who have the skills to successfully handle the written and computational requirements of any career training program or entry level job.
