This program prepares the dental assistant to assist the dentist at the chairside in the dental operatory, to perform reception and clerical functions, and to carry out selected dental laboratory work that may be assigned by a dentist. Instruction includes a combination of theory, laboratory, and supportive courses. Chairside Clinical experience is provided through affiliation with the private dental practices in the surrounding geographical area. Classes begin each July. Applications are available throughout the year. The Hepatitis B immunization series (3 doses) is recommended. Successful completion of the dental assisting course qualifies the student to sit for the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB). The program is accredited by the American Dental Association Council on Dental Accreditation.
