  • Future Bridge Engineers are First Alternates to the Finals!!!!!

“The Cantilevers” have earned seventh place in the nation in the national semi-final round of the West Point Bridge Design Competition. The team’s hard work, creativity and engineering savvy earned them the position of First Alternate to the finals in New York. This is an amazing accomplishment for our students!!

The team is comprised of Bo Samuels and Dan McLaughlin. They are students in the Engineering Tech. 1 class at Charlotte Technical Center. The team competed Friday in the national semifinal round against the 38 other top teams in the nation (over 6,000 teams took part in the national competition to qualify for the semifinal round). Only the top 6 teams in the semifinal round could move on to the finals. This means that The Cantilevers are first alternates and “will be invited to compete in the Final Round if one of the top six teams is unable to attend”.

Congratulations to these future engineers on their achievement!
